1-0

Ahh what a difference a season makes. With the tying run on in the 8th, things were starting to look a little dicey. I think we all started to get that pit in our stomachs, that ulcer that developed last September was creeping back. Suddenly Putz got out of the 8th and K-Rod got the Reds 1-2-3 with a strikeout to end the game and pickup the save for Johan Santana’s first win of the year. Santana looked great, even had a no hitter for a while. His pitch count was up though and Jerry pulled him in the 6th when Encarnacion, who has a good career numbers against Johan, came to the plate. Give a ton of credit to Sean Green for getting four big outs after Johan pitched and bridging the gap to Putz and K-rod. Dan Murphy is going to be nice, also nice play by Church in right with the sliding catch and turning the double play at first, he also had a couple hits. Life is good again folks.

On the pessimet side of things, the Mets left way too many runners on base for my liking. This game should not have been as close as it was. David Wright didn’t look great out there especially on the basepaths, getting thrown out at home and picked off of first. The bottom line is we won though. I will gladly take it, imagine the feeling had they blown this one.

Day off tomorrow, back on Wednesday at 7:10p Pelfrey vs. Volquez. Great matchup of young starters who will be in the league for a long time. Enjoy the win!

    Am I the only one that hates the day off every year on Tuesday? You get so excited about opening day and then you have to wait a day to see another game of baseball being played. All and all a great day to be a Mets fan because the one thing that has killed us which was our bullpen came up strong today and secured the win. At one point during the game I got a flashback of 2005 when Bradon Looper gave up the lead in Pedro’s first game as a Met and later lost the game for the Mets, but hey the bullpen really pulled one out today.

    By the way C.C. Sabathia looks really great today, how in the Yankees right mind could they pay him Santana money.

    CC looks like he went to one too many buffets with his 165 million. I know he was a big man before but he looks at least 30-40 pounds heavier. I can see him in year 4 of his 7 year deal huffin and puffin on a hot july afternoon against the red sox. What a waste of money.

    johan = clutch
    cc = fatbathia

    i bet cashman still likes his decision to hold onto melky, ian kennedy and phil hughes (none of which were on the opening day 25 man roster!).

    If Sabathia gets off to the start he did last year, I think he had a 10 something ERA at the end of April, he will get destroyed by the fans and media in NY. Gotta love it!
