Last year after the second collapse in as many years Mike Francesa the bold smug radio host on WFAN said that the Mets had to break up the corps of the team. At that time I was thinking to myself, lets relax there guy. But right now I see where he was going. DAVID WRIGHT CAN NO LONGER BE A MET. He did not hit in the clutch for the latter part of last season and he does not look any better this season. I can’t throw stats out with what he’s hitting in different situations but everyone can see it. He is getting booed out of the stadium and we’re only a month into the season.
Minaya needs to do something rash or this team is going to win no more than 80 games. The starting pitching is atrocious, so why dont we send Wright to Toronto in exchange for Roy Halladay??? Santana and Halladay in the rotation together will help save the bullpen for inning in August and September. Murphy can come and play third base and throw Sheffield out there in left everyday. This is the only solution that comes to mind to help save this team NOW.
The Mets can’t keep throwing the same guys out there and come up with unfavorable results. This is the biggest city in the world because of people who took risks. “He who is not courageous enough to take risks, will accomplish nothing in life.” Let’s be bold for once and not do what everyone expects which is roll over and die for the third consecutive season.

Definitely a bold post Freddie…Look David Wright has looked completely lost out there, I mean he;s leading the NL in strikeouts, but I dont think the Mets will trade him, well you know they wont do anything that bold to begin with but I wouldnt even trade him….Its very difficult to get a top 3B, just look how many different 3b the Mets have tried through the years before Wright came into the picture…Yes, he’s having a horrendous April but yes he will snap out of it…he needs one or clutch hits which eventually happen and then he’ll be back, and once he’s back this offense will completely take off because so far he’s been the missing link.
Wow, Freddie, you couldn’t be more wrong on this one! First off, fat-head Francesa is only making those comments because he and Wright don’t get along… Wright refuses to go on his show, and because of Francesa’s ego problems, he’s letting that dictate his opinions… he’s a moron. As for getting rid of David Wright, that’s absolute crazy talk… I don’t have time to research his numbers but he’s been one of the most successful hitters in baseball over the past 3 seasons… i can support that statement later if needed. Slumps are all part of baseball… look at what Jimmy Rollins has done for the Phillies so far this season… should they trade him too? I do agree that changes probably need to be made soon, but that’s with the starting rotation, and that’s only if Perez ends up being a total waste (which he’s on his way to being).
Whoa, you’re way out of line here bro. There isn’t a team in baseball that wouldn’t want David Wright, he’s one of the best in the game.
This is the kind of panicky nonsense I’d expect from Yankee fans. The Mets suck right now, but the season is less than month old.
This goes way past a slump. This is the same type of baseball this team has been playing for the past two years plus. It needs to change, I dont care if David Wright becomes the greatest baseball player of all time, the Mets NEED to make a CHANGE! They need new blood, new leaders. I am not over exaggerating on my point. They will not do anything as always and they will not win more than 80 games this season. Same story for the third year in a row!! This team is awful and it starts with Wright and it ends with Wright. Get him outta here!
You’re an Idiot
So you propose that Sheffield’s bat is what we’re replacing Wright with in the lineup? Clutch won’t even matter because we’ll be out of contention before July! i’m just as big a Mets fan as you are, and i’ve gone through all the pain that you have, but they would not have been anywhere near the top of the NL East standings in September the last 2 seasons and would not have made the playoffs the season before that if it wasn’t for David Wright. As Neddy pointed out, you’re sounding like someone who roots for a team in the Bronx!
Sorry to pile on Freddie but I forgot to mention that im not even sure the blue jays would be looking to deal anyone considering theyre in first place…Also I wouldnt trade wright for really anybody straight up, except maybe pujols possibly longoria
I dont mind people ganging up on me. I have a strong opinion about something and Im gonna stick to it. I HOPE IM WRONG! But I dont think I am. Wright reminds me a lot of the other 3b in this town without the numbers. This team is not a winning team, and I think you need to change it up. And who better than the guy with the hiogest value. I was even contemplating trading Reyes last year to the Dodgers for Kemp and Loney and signing orlando cabrera to play short just to change up the morale in the locker room. I dont care what happens as long as something happens. Otherwise, I dont think this team will be very competitive.
Hahaha. This is hilarious. (gasps, chokes with laughter) Man you got some good jokes. Hahahaha…Wait! You’re joking right? You’re not?!! You’re developmentally disabled? Oh, ok. Well, in that case I guess it would be cruel to make fun of you.
Freddie – please remember that Wright, for all of his issues at the plate, has some key points to his resume that are worth pointing out in the current discussion:
- His fielding hasn’t fallen off. In fact, he’s in line for another Gold Glove season.
- While generally a very consistent player, Wright has gone through short slumps before. This one looks egregious right now because his slumps have been so short – everyone’s entitled to an off-month once in a while. Let’s give the guy a chance here – A-Rod struck out a lot, but people stopped complaining when he rebounded and put up huge numbers. Wright is capable of a similar comeback, and all this criticism he’s received will be quickly forgotten.
- Here’s an argument that I don’t think you can argue with: Mr. Wright, for all of his experience and time in the majors, hasn’t hit his prime yet. He’s 26 years old, and to give up on a kid of this value would be a colossal risk on our part. By trading him, we’re assuming he won’t get improve from his current efforts, and that we’ll get someone equally or more value in return. I don’t think there’s a player in the majors who has as high a ceiling, or as much capability of contributing to the team, than David Wright.
- His numbers: they speak for themselves, particularly his WAR. He’s still getting better, too.
My point: there’s a reason we could get someone like Roy Halladay for David. He’s THAT good, and everyone knows it (except our excitable fan base). Check with Eric Simon on amazinavenue.com about his opinions here, he’s a great writer and an astute critic of our team.
Wow. I thought this was a parody.
You do realize that Fatcessa hates the Mets and there is nothing he would like to see more than the Mets take his advice and trade Wright, which would result in the Mets losing 80-90 games per year. You do realize this, right?
It’s not David Wright who can’t handle the pressure. This sort of irrational outburst is more reflective on a fan that can’t handle the pressure. What you are doing, Freddie, is projecting your own anxiety over David Wright onto David Wright himself. David Wright is the best position player the Mets have ever produced and perhaps the best Met position player period (only counting Met careers of course–otherwise it’s Willie Mays). It’s amazing that someone could think that trading him could make the team any better. With an average 3rd baseman, the Mets win 82 games last year.
You should not be allowed to talk about baseball. Work your self-esteem issues out somewhere else. ktnx
DAVID WRIGHT IS 5 FOR 51 AND 52 LOB WITH RISP THIS SEASON. NUMBERS DONT LIE! AND BTW I KNOW SOME OF YOU AGREE WITH ME BECAUSE IM NOT THE ONLY ONE BOOING HIM AT CITI FIELD. THE WHOLE STADIUM IS.
WHAT EVERYONE DOESNT UNDERSTAND IS I HOPE I AM WRONG. I WISH TO GOD HE WAKES UP TOMORROW AND HITS FOR THE CYCLE AND DRIVES IN 6 AGAINST PHILLY, BUT RIGHT NOW I AM ENTITLED TO MY OPINION ON WHERE HE SHOULD GO STICK IT.
David Wright is 7/33 with RISP. The people booing David Wright are morons. They have the right to be morons. You are right about that, and the last thing I want to do is take away someone’s constitutional right to be an imbecile. However, I have the right to advise against being an imbecile. If Wright goes 2/2 tomorrow with RISP and 2 outs, his average in that situation jumps from .222 to .300. 78 points of average for 2 ABs. To trade David Wright now is a hysterical overreaction.
I tottally agree with freddie on this one, we need more starting pitching and something is wrong with wright…. he’s not the same player he was in 06…. its time for a change!!
Freddie, you’re saying you would trade David Wright because a MONTH’S worth of numbers “don’t lie”? Are you saying that these will reflect the entire remainder of his career? Use your head, man!
And the whole stadium is NOT booing him. We should never be booing our players for a month’s slump.
Remeber one thing: This isn’t fantasy league baseball. Real baseball doesn’t quite operate that way. I wonder if you and those who agree with you were also the ones who wanted to get rid of Reyes last year. Reyes in 2008, Wright in 2009…. my vote’s for Beltran in 2010!

“Minaya needs to do something rash”
Hilarious!
It is quite possible that the Mets, as construced, aren’t as good of a team as some might think. The biggest thing that I heard that was going to be a problem, the starting pitching, is a problem. The other thing that was to be watched is the team’s ability to come from behind, hit in the clutch, etc. They still have trouble scoring runs for Santana and cannot seem to hit in the situations where they need to hit. I would worry more about the starting pitching than the starting lineup’s ability to come from behind/clutch hit due to the fact that if the pitchers, aside from Santana, can’t keep their ERAs under 5.50 (which probably means the actual runs allowed is a little higher), then they won’t win, no matter how clutch they are because it’s a lot to ask of a team to score 6-plus runs a game.
The main(e) problem, the ollie-gagging, and pelfry-ing will be the downfall of this team. Will help come later in the season in the form of a veteran number two starter? Will the young-uns pitch better as the season goes on? Many questioned the Mets’ starting pitching and, so far, they were right to be concerned about it, if not petrified in abject horror.
Time will tell…. but who will tell them it’s time?
You right it is quite possible this team right now may not be as good a team as we think they are but in the National league with the talent we have compared to other teams we should be a better team than we’ve shown, again its early..Lets not forget the phillies stunk early last year and we all know what happened with them
woah…this post is BLASPHEMY!!! btw – i can’t stand mike francesa.
It is Blasphemy…. He will come around.
I have a different approach to this, and its not anything that has to do with on the field issues. Its off the field.

Wright started dating this hot little piece of A sometime last yr I believe. Good for him, but not good for us. I do not say it out of jealously because David pulls in hotter ass than I will ever, but out of contempt as a Mets fan, because I feel the game deserves Mr Wrights full attention after two big disappointments. The timing of his dating her and in effectiveness in big spots is more than merely coincidental.
Models like that are high maintenance and get to your head. Even the hottest ass on the planet isn’t worth it if it gives you 5 daily headaches. Davy needs to focus on the game.
The problem here is DW is actually dating her, not just banging. As one sportscaster put it, you don’t see as many issues off field from the guys with normal wives, or the guys that are playboys, but the ones with super hot girlfriends/wives always have issues because they are in relationships. Anna Benson effect ??
This little baseball succubus needs to go. DW needs to start thinking with his big head and thinking on the field.
haha great link and insight here I may have to use that in a post soon
Boxxxxxx, thats why he is in a slump. Fredo great postI
