Peavy to White Sox, Derosa to Mets?

Update: Peavy has officially vetoed the deal to the White Sox. “As of right now, this is the best place for us to be. We made that decision for the time being,” Peavy said. The ace pitcher wants to remain in the National League, although that wasn’t part of his official statement, and he ideally wants to head to a top contender.

Update: According to ESPN.com, Jake Peavy’s agent “expressed doubt Thursday that his client is ready to sign off on a proposed trade” with the White Sox.
The agent, Barry Axelrod, told ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick that his client still has a “strong preference” to remain in the National League. “If I had to make a bet on it, I would guess that Jake would say he’s not ready to take that step today,” Axelrod said. “But he wouldn’t necessarily preclude it at any time in the future.”

According to SI.com’s Jon Heyman, the White Sox and Padres have agreed to a trade centered around Jake Peavy. The White Sox are expected to send four prospects to San Diego, and MLB.com’s Corey Brock is hearing left-handers Clayton Richard and Aaron Poreda will be the center pieces.

Per MLB fanhouse the Mets have confirmed interest in utility man Mark DeRosa. He’s batting .255/.322/.427 this season with six home runs and 26 RBI in 157 at-bats and is owed about $4.15 million. He can play multiple positions including 1st and short. I’m going to assume the Indians want pitching help, specifically bullpen help. I’m not sure what I’d be willing to part with for DeRosa.

Well if this deal is completed and Peavy agrees to it ,then that takes off the big pitcher that I assume would have been on Omar’s radar. I’m going to guess that the Jays who are playing competitive ball will hold on Halladay. Trade options may be limited for Omar with the asking price I imagine to be insanely large. That said, having a one two punch of Johan and say Roy Oswalt could be very deadly. I’d be willing to give up top notch prospects for the right pitcher.

DeRosa could be a decent stop gap till Delgado gets back. He would still be a valuable player to have after Carlos gets back. I assume the Indians would want pitching in return. I wouldn’t want to give up too much for DeRosa. I would not part with Bobby Parnell for him if I were Omar.

Interesting…I’d agree that DeRosa is probably somebody you want on your team but not at any high price. I would not give up Parnell to get him at this point. Doc Halladay might be the best pitcher in baseball and the rumors are very exciting but I just don’t see it happening.

I agree… off the top of my head, the only guy on the major league roster worth giving up for DeRosa is Castro. i’m sure we have some minor leaguers they could have though.

Derosa is the man. Can play any infield position and play it well. Can also play outfield. Not sure about the rest of you guys but watching our defence at certain positions makes me sick. I’d love to have the guy. God knows I’m sure our pitcher’s would too.
