Omir Santos has made it clear, he’s not going anywhere. Santos continues to show why he deserves to stay on this team when Brian Schneider gets activated tomorrow. His home run in the 5th inning tied the game at one. And his game winning line drive single to left in the bottom of the 11th won the game to plate Sheffield. Old man Sheff singled to lead off the 11th, stole second and advanced to third on a wild throw before Santos’ game winner. Omir wears number 9. Legend has it when he came up he asked the Mets clubhouse manager what number the catcher wore when the Mets last won the World Series. The answer was Gary Carter, number 8. Santos then requested the number nine. At this point, I think it’s obvious he’s earned his roster spot.
It will be interesting to see what happens. I’m pretty sure the Mets don’t want to eat Castro’s 2.5 million and cut him. According to Adam Rubin, they’ve been looking to trade him. Jon Heyman says the Mets have been talking to the White Sox, Rubin mentions the Mariners as another possible landing spot. The Mets could also carry three catchers and go with 11 pitchers, meaning someone from the bullpen, probably Ken Takahashi would be sent down.
Mike Pelfrey continues to pitch well with nothing to show for it. Pelfrey is now winless in his last four starts but the Mets have only given him two runs of support over that stretch. For the second game in a row a Mets pitcher went into the 8th inning something that hasn’t happened all year. The bullpen shut down the Marlins for the rest of the game.
Great game tonight. There’s nothing like watching a great pitcher’s duel and then a walk-off win. The Mets continue to find ways to win, they continue to be resilient. The pessimet in me must remind everyone its been the Nationals and Marlins in winning four in a row but hey good teams beat bad teams right? You have to love the fact the team is doing this with as many injuries as they’ve sustained. This team could go on a real serious run if and when everyone gets healthy(fingers crossed).
Notes: Could the Mets have finally heard what many of us have been saying for a while now? Could they have finally done away with Sweet Caroline in the 8th inning? Meet the Mets was played instead tonight. I like it, we’ve copied the Red Sox long enough.
David Wright was booed in the 11th after he struckout, he slammed his bat when he entered the dugout. He’s back in a bit of a slump after going 0-5 tonight, he’s 4 for his last 24.

I predict the METSIES trade Castro to the White Sox for Lance B’Way …
