Update: Game cancelled for tonight, no makeup date set yet but there won’t be a doubleheader tomorrow, thankfully. Another day of rest for the banged up Mets helps.
Battling a stomach virus, a skinny Carlos Beltran is back in the lineup tonight batting third ahead of Sheffield and Wright. According to Eddie Coleman on WFAN Jose Reyes has suffered a setback and will go back to NY to get re-evaluated. Ugh, these injuries are so frustrating. It may force Omar into making a move.
“I feel good,” Beltran said. “Yesterday was the day I started feeling good. Today, finally, the symptoms stopped. They gave me some IV yesterday (at a doctor’s office) to recuperate all the fluid I lost. I felt like I was poisoned by food or something. … I feel skinny. I feel very skinny. I don’t know if it’s 10 pounds (lost). Five for sure.”
Emil Brown has been called up taking the injured Ramon Martinez’ spot. Alex Cora also returns to the lineup today.
J.J. Putz has lost the 8th inning duties to Bobby Parnell per Jerry.
“Hopefully this is a small, small window for him to get right,” Manuel said. “This is not long term.”

Bobby Parnell is one bright spot in the Mets bullpen, he’s got some great stuff! I’m glad to see the managers put late-inning trust in him.
Emil Brown’s got some power and is somewhat young. Let’s hope he provides the power that the Mets lack with all these injuries. He had 17 homers and 86 RBI’s hitting .286 for KC in 2005 and provides some veteran guidance.
What? One Bright Spot? How many innings have you watched this year? Other than Putzy, the ‘pen has been very good so far. Among the best in baseball, seriously.
