Here is a funny clip of David Wright doing an ESPN commercial. I use to be a huge David Wright fan but lately I can’t stand him. His numbers are good on paper but it seems like when you need him to get that big hit he never comes through. Wright will go 4-5 with two home runs in a Mets 10-0 route of the Nationals but will not come up big in the clutch. I will not boo Wright for no apparant reason. The only way I will boo Wright at a game is if he fly’s out to end an inning with runners on 2nd and 3rd and two outs with the Mets down by a run. Superstar players need to produce in clutch situation and for me Wright is not that superstar player yet and who knows if he ever will be.

No one is more critical of david than I am and when hes hot, hes hot. the situation dont matter, its just when hes cold the situations all seem to be needed. I made a bold statement earlier in the season saying that Wright Must go. I have recently thought about that lately and realized the player that must go is Reyes. He has more value for a big time pitcher in the offseason, alla doc Halladay. And you get a very good defensive ss alla Orlando Cabrera and u put Johan, Halladay 1/2 at Citi, How do you not win?
How do you not win? It’s very simple…. the answer is the same for, “Why does Johan not win every game he pitches, considering he’s the best pitcher in baseball?”… You can’t win without any hitting! A couple of top-tier starting pitchers will definitely win you most of their games while they’re out there (Johan’s won 7 out of the 11), but if you give up a guy like Reyes or Wright, then these starting pitchers better not have an ERA over 1.50 or you will have no shot… and that’s only 2 out of the 5 guys in the rotation!
Hold on a sec there Omar, how do you replace Reyes so easily? You guys are so quick to sh*t on him, but you would miss him badly in about two weeks. And it’s not as if Oakland would just give up a guy like Cabrera for nothing. Yes, he was available cheap in the off-season, but at this point you’re going to have to give the As something in return.
The reality is that Wright and Reyes are amongst the best at their positions. The numbers at the end of the season will bear that out. Anyone would want them, except for the ingrates on this message board. Good hitters still make an out 7 out of 10 times. And even ace pitchers like Johan and Doc Halladay struggle, and even when they don’t you CAN and will lose with both of them at times, sorry.
Obviously, u people dont understand what Im saying. I am not saying be bold and pull the trigger now, but in the offseason. How many times are you gonna run out the same team with the same core and they come up short year after year. even in 06 when they clinched the east, it took them like 8 games to do it. If u get halladay, and u have santana thats 40 percent of the starts. If they each pitch 35 games a season and the mets win 25/35 for each started thats 50 wins. Ur telling me u cant squeeze out another 40-45 wins form starters 3-5? With Krod? And a solid defense?
First of all, I don’t see anything in your 1st post about the off-season. Nice back tracking.
Secondly, who do you envision the Mets giving up to get Roy Halladay? I just want to know, seriously. Every single team in baseball would want that guy. He’s awesome, and the Jays know that. They might not be the best run team, but they are not giving up one of the best in the game cheap, if at all.
“He has more value for a big time pitcher in the offseason, alla doc Halladay.”
reyes for Halladay. Reyes younger, more exciting, cheaper than halladay.
I said earlier this year wright for halladay and no one was on my side. i still have my own opinion and will not back away from it. I asked several people and they said if the jays offered that they wouldnt accept…seriously????
Look I do agree with Freddie in that Good Pitching is the right formula for a championship, that said I dont think you can give up the guys you’re talking about in Wrigth and Reyes, the key here is keep the core but change the team around them…Get more gritty around those guys WITH solid pitching and then we’re tlaking going deep in october….If we could somehow manage to get a real #2 a la roy oswalt or peavy this season without messing with core…Meaning bye bye fernando martinez, then i would do it
I just got a hard on for doc halladay. And I dont think u get him without giving up wright/reyes. The blue jays would prolly like reyes back becasue of the lower salary.
As much as I’m down on Reye’s and think he is an immature clown at times the idea of trading him is ridiculous. He not only does, but does extremely well 2 of the most important things in baseball. He bats leads off and plays gold glove caliber defence at the most important position on the field. Name 1 other guy who does that?? ……..I’ll wait…….waiting…… YOU CAN’T!!! there’s is no one else who does this, and if there is theres definitely no one who does it as well. Not sure if anyone has been watching the reyesless mets, but our defence definitely suffers in his absence. Add in the fact that he is capable, and has won many games single-handedly. He’s not going to win it for us, but you need him to get you there. Then add in the fact that he’s still a kid, 5 years experience and still less than 25 and ANY trade you make would instantly go down with Nolan ryan, worse than scott kazmir as the worst trade in mets history. We could bring in Steve Phillips just to pull the trigger!
