1:15pm Mike Francesa on WFAN just said J.J. Putz will need surgery and be out 8-12 weeks.

At least we know Putz’s horrible start wasn’t just him struggling horribly, it was him being hurt. Add J.J. to the scrap heap pile of injuries.

Update:

Fernando Nieve will replace J.J. Putz on the roster. Nieve was claimed off waivers from the Astros late in spring training. He began the season at Double-A Binghamton, and was 3-0 with a 3.70 ERA as a starter since joining Triple-A Buffalo. The Mets also have claimed lefthander Pat Misch off waivers from the Giants.

Dan Twohig of The Mets Police blog did some research and found that Beyond the Boxscore really broked down and dissected the DL in recent years by team and by position. From 2002- 2008 the Mets are third among all MLB teams in total number of trips to the DL.
