Rays Soak Mets

Well at least Johan Santana came back strong. That was the good news, the bad news was that James Shields out dueled Johan and the Rays won 3-1 today at a rain soaked CitiField.

The Met offense was stifled all day. Before a Carlos Beltran single in the 9th, the Rays set down 19 Mets in a row at the plate. Carlos Pena and Ben Zobrist hit solo shots which provided the Tampa punch.

The game was delayed an hour and fifteen minutes in the top of the 8th by rain. At least the game didn’t end shortened. Another rubber match tomorrow as Mike Pelfrey will face off against Jeff Niemann. The last four series the Mets have played have all had rubber matches. The Mets are 1-3 in those and they have been bad all year in rubber matches.

It’s hard to see the positive in a loss, it’s part of being a pessimet. But really we should all be thankful that Johan looked very good against a very good offense. Other than that our offense was pathetic today. If I have to in every post I make, I will continue to push for Omar to make a move to improve the offense by trade. Let’s go Omar!

  1. BIG PARTY on Saturday 20, 2009

Like many of us,the ump was surprised that K-Wright broke the 2nd inning no-hitter with a hit and then scored on a wild pitch. Way too much to absorb that he decided to give the METSIES a nap during the game to avoid a sleepy offense later. Now there are 3 umps and no ump on second base. Play has resumed METS up 1-0. Should be fun as I’m watching this from the BIG APPLE resrvd seats!
