C.C. Stifles Mets

The Yankees picked up where they left off in Yankee stadium against the Mets. Yankees 24 Mets 1, in the last two cross town battles. C.C. Sabathia dominated the Mets, throwing four innings of no hit ball before Gary Sheffield hit a solo homer in the fifth for the Mets only run. C.C. only allowed three hits and struck eight. Brett Gardner had a career day with four hits and a home run.

Mike Pelfrey struggled early and was not helped by the Mets defense. Pelfrey became increasingly frustrated by the errors, he also looked like he thought he was getting squeezed by the ump, he showed his emotion on the field. For a starter getting rattled like that is not a good thing. The Mets shoddy defenese reared it’s ugly head once again. This time three errors in the 2nd inning led to four Yankee runs. The Yanks piled on later. A-Rod homered late. When it doesn’t count, count on A-Rod.

The game was pretty much over after those three errors and four runs. Both Philly and Florida lost so the standings remain in tact, in a very close N.L. East. The Mets will look to exact some revenge on A.J. Burnett tomorrow night with Tim Redding on the hill for the Mets.

Notes: The game was delayed by fifty minutes by a torrential downpour. John Maine still feels pain in his shoulder. He took a cortisone shot yesterday but his rehab start tomorrow has been cancelled. At this point his return is scheduled for after the all-star break.

You can now vote for the eighth inning sing a long again. Boomer and Carton made some song choices, most of which I think are pretty bad but at the bottom of you can vote for your choice. I went with Meet the Mets. Although it’s not an option any more I liked Daydream Believer by the Monkees.
