Welcome to mediocrity, the Mets are back to .500 baseball at 37-37 after the Mets went 4-6 on their 10 game homestand and got swept by the Yankees. Another disgusting loss. Chien-Ming Wang got his first victory in over a year as the Met offense made him look great again. Then there’s Mariano Rivera.
As it stands, Rivera is undoubtedly the best closer of all time. He got his 500th save against the Mets Sunday night and the first RBI of his fourteen year career when K-Rod walked him with the bases loaded. What’s with A-Rod jumping up and down in the dugout like a little girl when Mo reached base? I can understand more and more why people, including his own teammates despise him. The outcome doesn’t diminish the fact that Joe Girardi tends to constantly out manage himself and misuse his bullpen but I digress.
I’m not sure where we’re heading this season any more. The team is back at .500 and has literally fallen apart with injuries. It seems like the organization is willing to wait it out, stand pat and not spend money. The problem is the season may be in hanging in the balance RIGHT NOW. We’ve lost by one game the last two seasons, yes in part to horrible Septembers, but losses in June count just as much as losses in September right? I am a pretty big Omar supporter but if no significant moves are made for a third straight season then maybe we need someone in his position who will make them.
