I almost forgot what a win felt like. Five runs! Yes, five runs, I had to say it twice. The offense actually put together some hits and the Mets held on and beat the Dodgers 5-4 tonight.
Oliver Perez returned and was his usual inconsistent self, he walked seven batters in five innings. He bent but didn’t break though, which was huge. K-Rod came in and again was wild. He gave up a leadoff homer to Manny then gave up a walk before getting the game ending double play.
Jeremy Reed had some good looking at bats as he went 2-3 with a RBI. David Wright broke out of 0-17 hitless streak going 2-4 with a RBI himself. Dan Murphy also went 2-4 with two extra base hits, and one crazy defensive play. In the 7th Mark Loretta hit one down to first that went off the bag straight into the air, Murphy grabbed it and no looked the toss behind his back barehanded to Parnell covering first. We’ll see plenty of highlights of that one in the future.
Phew, a win. A good win. See what a little offense and semi-decent pitching can do? We actually have a chance to win a series tomorrow. How nice would a series win feel right now? Livan Hernandez will matchup against Randy Wolf tomorow. I’ll be there early.
Notes: Asked before the game if he had anyone in sports that he could turn to for spiritual counsel in difficult times, manager Jerry Manuel drew robust laughs with his response.
“Counsel? Shoot, I need Gandhi and King,” Manuel said. “They went through some stuff.

It‘s quite in here! Why not leave a response?
