The Mets have traded Ryan Church straight up to the Braves for struggling Jeff Francoeur.

Maybe a change of scenery will help the struggling Francoeur, he was demoted to the minors last season. His potential is greater than Church’s but he’s not really a better player right now. He’s batting .250 with 5 home runs and 35 RBIs. The positive is he is much younger at the age of 25 so he still has time to grow.

This move doesn’t necessarily help the ball club. For whatever reason, I think the Mets, specifically Jerry Manuel for whatever reason, never liked Ryan Church. Francoeur was in Bobby Cox’s doghouse playing behind Matt Diaz, so from that standpoint both GM’s are probably happy. Look, I give some credit to Omar for making a deal and I always said that you can not downgrade the emotional boost making a trade brings to a team but I don’t love the deal. The thing that scares me, besides just his recent poor baseball numbers, is Francoeur has never been out Georgia is whole career. He’s grown up there and played for the Braves the whole time, so hopefully he won’t be in too much shock coming to New York and dealing with the scrutiny. As always time will tell.
