Prior to tonight’s game, our boys in orange & blue have appeared to have injected some optimism into a select few diehard fans.
I, James Sweeney, AM NOT ONE OF THEM. (spoken like a true pessimet)
Hats off to a team who won a game I couldn’t stomach to watch last night. By the time the game reached the sixth inning, I had to turn it off for my sanity. Thoughts such as “Who’s gonna screw up the routine play?” and “How many more times can I chuck the remote control against the wall before it shatters?” constantly rolled through my mind. In the best interest of my mental stability (or lack thereof), my fragile heart and, most importantly, my remote control… I decided to not view the final innings of the game. Instead I opted for an evening filled with stock market quotes, old school cartoons, and home cooking. Then after a stress-free night, it came to my attention that the Mets actually won the game courtesy of Fernando Tatis. Well, all I have to say is…
La-Di-freakin’-Da! The Mets finally pull of a victory at home against an important team! (with the Rockies currently holding the top spot for the wild card). Too bad it’s a tad’ bit too late for me and numerous others too give a damn!!!
Then suddenly, like a tree and a drunken skier, it hit me! It’s July 28th! That means that there is just 3 more days left until the trade deadline! And it left me wondering…
ARE THE 2009 METS BUYERS OR SELLERS!!!
Are the Mets bulls or bears? Did they save money under the mattress or did they keep it in their now non-existent 401k’s? Are they Goldman Sachs or Bear Stearns? And so on, and so forth…
Currently, as it stands, the Mets are 10 ½ games behind the defending champion, NL East leading Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets are also 6 ½ games behind the Colorado Rockies for the wild card, pinning them in 8th place overall in the NL wild card race. With 64 games remaining to be decided, those odds are in no way promising. In my opinion, the Mets have a better chance of bringing back Mo Vaughn & Roberto Alomar than clinching the wild card!
So what do YOU think my fellow pessimets and pessimet readers? Are they gonna make a push or will they begin pushing away salaries? Or are they gonna make no changes at all?
If the decision depends on the health of its players, then optimism is pretty much gone.
Beltran – out indefinitely, sipping maltas in Puerto Rico
Delgado – August? Breaking out the JustForMen Facial Hair Brush
Wagner – August? Won’t Pitch Till There’s a White President
Putz – August? The Dude Is Simply a Putz
Reyes – still rehabbing, next week? Or next week, or next week, or the week after…
And let’s say they make a push to acquire another big name such as Roy Halladay or Cliff Lee or Ian Snell (none of which are likely because they are not Spanish or have Spanish names, we have our token white and black players)… Would such a move benefit a team like ours right now? Will it even benefit our team next season? In my opinion, ME THINKS NOT… But hey, my name isn’t Omar Minaya! And after watching him make a fool of himself during the BernHazard press conference by directing blame towards a Daily News reporter, of all people… It is safe to say that nobody knows what this man is capable of anymore… Baseball’s One Time Genius Is Beginning To Look Like A Blundering Buffoon (well put James, avoiding profanities)
And let’s say the Mets make NO MOVES AT ALL, even during the off-season. Which may be the case when looking at the lack of free-agents available this coming off-season, depending on team decisions on certain player options. Will we continue to see the Citifield Circus aka CorporateField Circus that is The New York Mutts?!?! I think Omar may have a circus fetish! (Lots of Spanish women look like clowns, they wear too much makeup & I’ve seen 20 Spanish men squeeze into little cars before) Only time will tell…
So I leave this forum to you guys. Tell me what you think the Mets are. Are they Buyers or Sellers or Neither? Can we expect major moves before Friday? Will all moves be postponed to the off-season? Or will no changes be made with Omar feeling confident that his several million dollar disabled list will be up and ready to come out swinging next year?
Let me hear your thoughts and let’s start a discussion! Cheers!

I think neither this year, we have nothing to really trade that isnt injured and Omar isnt going to do anything further to mess his future up as GM
“the Mets have a better chance of bringing back Mo Vaughn & Roberto Alomar than clinching the wild card!”
Can we please have Super Joe McEwing back as well too while you are at it ? I know he manages AA somewhere. I say we bounce Razor Shines for Super Joe
I totally agree with bringing back Super Joe McEwing as a replacement for Dull Razor Shines!!! I thought Cookie Rojas was a bad 3rd base coach for the Mets, but this Dull Razor Can’t Even Cut A Cookie!!!!
And on top of a return for Super joe, I have the perfect fit for the new VP of player development (besides myself of course)… and his name is TSUYOSHI SHINJO!!!!!!
Shinjo…ShinYES!!! think about it, he’ll have every player hop-stepping and bowing and he won’t get into any trouble… He barely speaks English!!! just like the rest of our team!!! that was BernHazards problem, he spoke too much English!!!
Loved Tsuyoshi Shinjo lol…Can we also bring back Mackey “The Hack” Sasser as our Catchers coach?
