Rays Called Mets about Kazmir

According to Joel Sherman of the  New York Post, the Rays called the Mets and Rangers about the availability of  former Met prospect Scott Kazmir. The Mets showed initial interest but nothing more according to the post. The Rays are looking to move Kazmir to free up money for a possible deal involving Victor Martinez and/or Cliff Lee from the Indians or a deal for Roy Halladay of the Jays.

While the initial trade of Kazmir will go down in history as one of the worst moves in Mets history, that no Met fan will ever forget, I’m not so sure I would give up a whole lot to get him back. While he’s shown great stuff, Kazmir has been very injury prone. People who’ve watched Kazmir say he’s topping out at closer to 92 mph rather than the 96 he was throwing in seasons past.

I meant to post about this. Sounds like it wasn’t close to happening, which is good. Besides the fact that Kazmir seems to be a bigger than average injury risk, the humiliation of trading him for Victor Zambrano and then trading to get him back would just be too much. I can put up with a sub-500 team with a $149,373,987 price tag, but not the return of Scott Kazmir. As a pessimistic Mets fan I can say with full confidence that there’s no possible way it could have worked out well for the Mets.
