The 2009 baseball season is finally over but the pain won’t end, as the hated Yankees have won their 27th championship. And why shouldn’t they have? $161M for C.C., 82.5M for A.J., oh and let’s not forget $180M for Texeira, all in the past off season. Hey, I’ll give the Steinbrenner’s credit for spending the money, they’ve already more than made up for their investment I’m sure, but there is no other team in baseball, none, that could have spent that much in one off season. That of course gives the Yankees a distinct advantage. We’ve seen money will make you a perennial contender, they will always be in the run for a playoff spot because they BUY their players!
If it sounds like I’m hating, you’re absolutely right. Do I wish the Mets could spend like the Yankees do? Probably. Would I be happy if the Mets went out and got John Lackey and Matt Holliday this offseason? Without a doubt. But that does not discount the fact that the Yankees plain and simple Bought their 27th championship. On a side note I’ve also officially begun to hate Jay-Z’s song “Empire State of Mind”, every time I’ve heard it played over the past few weeks it’s in association with the Yankees. Jay-Z does have another song off that Blueprint 3 album called “Hater” which probably suits me better for the moment. Ok I’m done for now, I’ll go back to sipping on my Moj-hate-to.

I’m not sure why they’re even having a parade. When they went out and spent all that money, they should’ve announced that there would be no parade, because they just bought a championship, so when they win it, there’s nothing to be excited about. Anything less would’ve been a huge, huge disappointment for the team. If i’m a Yankee fan right now, all I’m doing is nodding my head and saying, “just as expected”, and then continuing my life as a bandwagon jumper.
Today is a bad, bad day. I didn’t even watch last night, and I’m swimming in the Hatorade. I was going to suggest that Dom black out the site today, as all Met fans should be mourning. We’ve all forgotten just how obnoxious yankee fans can be. Since at least ‘04 they’ve been beaten down and owned by the Red Sox, but now the swagger is back..ugh.
I was really hoping for another yankee collapse. It’s going to be a long winter. Thanks again for nothing Pedro…
Doesn’t really bother me as a Mets fan all that much this time. But like you point out, the yankees fans are like “ok we won yea !!!” it doesn’t really come as such a big surprise. No shocker there Dom.
Compare and contrast the world series celebration this yr, to last yrs one.
I know the Philly fans were surprised and not having won anything in a while it caused them to do things like vandalize their own city (excuse for low life behavior) and players to drop F bombs at celebrations, stores broken into and robbed (who robs a luggage store? really ?), cars set on fire and flipped over, bus stops destroyed, planters and other things around city hall flipped over etc. Still pretty tame compared to a Boston or detroit celebration, but it definitely on the lines of the low end of the class spectrum and also gene pool spectrums. Lets not forget all of the world phuckin champ shirts.
Yankees. Won, had a ticker tape parade in style no real damage, their manager helps some lady from an accident on his way home at 3 in the am. No major problems. Yes their fans suck and are bad winners, however as mentioned: when you spend that much and win it is not shocking, when you spend that much and don’t win like the last five yrs I would be bitter as a fan. Of course Yankee fans are going to take shit and hear about salary cap reform and things from other fans, but it seems the reasonable fans right now are happy but not overjoyed, because how could you not win.
At least they had a classy celebration that should serve as an example to the low lifes out there.
In other news most of the phils fans here in the philly area took the loss kind of well, but for some reason there was a huge two day spike in Philadelphia police complaints about domestic violence. I wonder why…..
