How many times have you heard that today? Well I’m sure we’ll be hearing it more as a deals that moves Roy Halladay to Philly and John Lackey to Boston are all but locked up. The Phillies would be giving up Lee, thank God it’s not a 1,2 punch of Halladay and Lee, but Roy is definitely an upgrade, however small over Lee.
I think I’m more upset the Mets didn’t go after Lackey harder. I mean our top priority, even over left field had to be a #2 starter, and it doesn’t even look like we seriously made an offer to Lackey. Instead, Omar seemed to be focused on backup catchers. Ugh. So here we go, where does that leave us?
Are we going to over pay for Jason Marquis or Joel Pineiro? For God’s sake, I hope not Pineiro. I see us going after Marquis and then taking a flyer on Sheets or Bedard. The Mets have already offered a banged up Kelvim Escobar a minor league deal. I’m curious to see if this frees up room for us to go after Matt Holliday, who I don’t think is much better than Bay.
The frustration is continuing to mount this off season. I think the majority of Met fans were waiting and hoping that the Mets would do right by the fans and bring us some hope with a big splash. Unfortunately, I don’t think there will be any major tsunamis from the Mets this off season. I’m afraid to say, best case we’re looking Matt Holliday and a mediocre starter or two.

1) I don’t think it is a terrible day, we will need to evaluate what the phils really gave up to get Halladay once the deal is finalized. I really don’t see a tremendous upgrade over Cliff Lee.
2) Can the Sawks even make an offer to Bay now that they spent 85 mill on Lackey ?
3) Can the Mariners make an offer to Bay now that they have to re sign Lee, and also need to discuss a long term deal with Felix Hernandez ? Keep in mind that they signed Figgins as well.
I think the probability of seeing Bay in a Mets uniform just got a lot higher.
Holliday is not better than Bay???? Come on Dom.
Holliday 2 years younger, and a better fielder. I would be furious if the Mets signed Bay at 4 or 5 years at 16 mill a clip. That is way too much money to give an average player in my eyes.
I WILL NOT STEP FOOT IN CITI FIELD NEXT SEASON.
I said Holliday is not MUCH better….Yes Holliday is younger and has some more speed but purely hitting i think Holliday was always over rated by being in Colorado all those years…The market for these 2 guys should be lower for sure, lets see what the Mets do..Just look at their stats last couple years:
Holliday:
in 08 Holliday 25 HR 88 RBI is 139 Games
in 09 Holliday had 24 HR and 109 RBIs in 156 Games
Bay:
in 08 31 HR and 101 RBI in 155 Games
in 09 36 HR and 119 RBI 151 Games
Have we done anything yet ?? Yawn…
