I compiled my list of the top 10 Pessimet moments of the 2000’s, these are some of the worst Met moments of the decade and gladly they are behind us. Here’s to a Happy, healthy, prosperous and winning 2010!!!!
10. 2004 Kaz Matsui - As much as we all hate Steve Phillips, we should really hate Jim Duquette. Signing Kaz Matsui to play shortstop and moving Jose Reyes to 2B was a typical Met blunder. Also in the 2004 season the Mets had the brilliant idea of moving Mike Piazza to 1B, which didn’t quite work out either. Tough times.
9. 2009 DL season – One of the oddest seasons in memory. It seemed like everyone was put on the DL in a very painful season to watch and to top it off the Yanks won the series against another team we hate, the Phillies.
8. 2002 Steve Phillips Trades – Thanks Steve for bringing in Roberto Alomar, Mo Vaughn and Jeromy Burnitz again. I The Wilpon’s are still trigger shy because of those horrible contracts. Pretty sure Mo is still on the payroll.
7. 2009 Subway Series – Luis Castillo drops the would be final out in the bottom of the 9th. Worst of all, A-Rod was the one who hit the ball. Castillo will always hear the words Two Hands!
6. 2002 Regular Season Subway Series – Roger Clemens faced the Mets for the first time at Shea Stadium since the Piazza controversy. Mets pitcher Shawn Estes attempted to hit Clemens in retaliation but instead threw a pitch 10 feet behind Clemens. I still remember this game. The Mets were in the midst of a miserable season and they couldn’t even drill a pitcher the right away. To his credit, Estes actually homered off Clemens and the Mets won.
5. 2004 Trade of Scott Kazmir – This trade may go down as one of the worst ever in Met history and has lived on infamously for a while. In a panic move, Jim Duquette trades the Mets stud lefty pitching prospect to the Rays for Victor Zambrano. Kazmir, while never an ace, is still a good arm who would probably be the #2 in the Mets pitching staff right now.
4. 2000 World Series. The Yankees celebrate their championship at Shea Stadium as the Mets go out in 5 games. Also, the series included Roger Clemens throwing a piece of a shattered bat toward Piazza. Yes it was a good season for an over achieving bunch, but losing to the Yanks in the World Series still sucks.
3. 2007 Game 162 – Tom Glavine gives up 7 runs in the first inning in a 8-1 loss to the Marlins. Mets blow a 7 game lead with 17 games to play in the season, as the Mets fall one game short of the playoffs.
2. 2008 Game 162 - Shea Goodbye – Mets lose 4-2 to the Marlins on the final day of the season and choke away their playoff hopes for a second straight season in the final game ever played at Shea Stadium. Probably the worst Mets loss I’ve ever seen live.
and the NUMBER ONE Pessimet moment of the decade is . . .
1. 2006 NLCS Game 7 – Carlos Beltran strikes out with the bases loaded as the Mets lose to the Cardinals, in what would be the last playoff game ever at Shea Stadium. The miraculous Endy Chavez catch may be traced to the beginning of the end of the Omar Minaya era if things don’t start working out soon.

It‘s quite in here! Why not leave a response?
