Focus Shift

Now that football season is officially over in NY it’s time to really shift the focus back to baseball and our Mets.

Mini-Camp opened today in Port St. Lucie. Amongst those in attendance  Jon Niese, Ollie P, Johan, and Dan Murphy. John Maine did not make it down due to the crazy rain today.

Jon Niese threw for the first time since his hamstring tear last August.

I’ve said this before but I think Niese is going to be a quality pitcher in the majors one day. I feel he can be a solid number three with potential for more. Time will tell, until then get healthy kid.

Today Oliver Perez said, “Right now I don’t feel anything. I think that’s why I’m really happy.’

I hope happiness = wins for Ollie, he owes us big time after last year.

Johan Santana will throw tomorrow for the first time since surgery, he says his elbow is feeling good and he should be ready to go for Opening Day. In Adam Rubin’s blog with the Post he quotes Johan as saying:

“It’s doing good. It’s my first time actually on a field being able to throw. I felt pretty good. We did a pretty good job in the offseason working out with the rehab. I’m feeling good. Everything is on schedule. … I’ve been doing all my throwing and everything, but to be out here as a team is a good feeling.”

On Mets possibly surprising people:

“We’re not talking about surprises at all. We know what we’re capable to do. I know what I’m capable to do. But if you’re not healthy, there’s not much you can do. So I believe that as long as we stay together and we do the little things and we stay healthy, we’re going to have a pretty good chance. But it’s a long season and you have to wait until the end to see the results.”
