JJ Putz who was recently signed to a one year 3 million dollar contract by the Chicago White Sox recently sat down with CSN Chicago to tell his side of the story of what happened to his dismal one year stint with the Mets.
Some highlights from The Putz interview:
“It was a mess from the beginning”
“When the trade went down last year, I never really had a physical with the Mets. I had the bone spur (in the right elbow). It was discovered the previous year in Seattle, and it never got checked out by any other doctors until I got to spring training, and the spring training physical is kind of a formality. It was bugging me all through April, and in May I got an injection. It just got to the point where I couldn’t pitch. I couldn’t throw strikes, my velocity was way down.”
“Being hurt is never fun, especially when you go to a team like New York, where the expectation level is so high, and you’re not able to do what you know you can do. (The Mets) gave up a lot to get me, so it was disappointing and frustrating.”
“I knew that I wasn’t right. I wasn’t healthy. The toughest part was having to face the media and tell them that you feel fine, even though you know there’s something wrong and they don’t want you telling them that you’re banged up.”
“That it’s my career, and when you know something doesn’t feel right, and they want to take these little sidesteps to do something, and just wait and wait and wait, you got to get it taken care of instead of trying to prolong the inevitable.”
Are you kidding me? Just when you thought that this organization could not get any worse. All I have to say is thank you Carlos Beltran for taking the initiative and doing what needed to be done so that you can be out on the field when the team needs you. There is something new every single day with this INEPT franchise.

How many people actually thought something like a bone spur was JJ’s fault? A bone spur doesn’t happen over a two month period.
This should have been discovered before the Mets pulled the trigger on a trade. Seattle knew Putz was damaged goods, and was just looking for some sucker team who makes bad decisions to dump him on. Omar got fleeced by Seattle who looks like they are making some major strides this off-season, and pretty smart moves to rebuild and re stock their team like a smart front office should. How is everything that this Mets front office does so apathetic that it get made fun of by players, Mets fans, media, and even people who don’t know shit about the game.
No wonder no one wants to f’n play in Queens. Guys around the league talk to each other and their agents about all this shit. The word on the street about the Mets organization must be mud by now.
I am willing to bet that if we took another more intelligent front office, like lets say the Rays or the Marlins, or Rockies, and gave them our budget for 5 yrs, they would be able to build a dynasty and perennial contender. Omar has a ton of money to play with and he wastes it on garbage. Really who the hell thinks that a former Expos GM is qualified to make it in NY. Fuck him and the Wilpons. Someone needs to enforce pain on these little bitches so that they understand what we as long time Mets fans feel….
Yeah I read the article about Putz and was not surprised at all….The fact that they told him not to say anything to the media was something that it was ridiculous….obviously they did it to save face but they are willing to throw the player under the bus…..scumbag move…
As far as Seattle goes, they also signed Ryan Garko today for 550k….but Fernando Tatis for 3 times that amount is definitely worth it!
I thought that the Mets gave Tatis 850k this yr ?
It is only overpaying 1.5 times Then to pay less to get a younger bat with potential to stay for a few seasons.
I don’t think that bringing Tatis back was terrible since he is pretty versatile, but again… No one wants to play here..
