Next Year DEFINITELY Isn’t Now… (I’m Back!)

So Here We Go!

Just A Few Days Left Until The New 2010 Mets Season Starts

And Yours Truly Is Back On To Fill You In On All The Ups & Downs (well, mostly downs) Of The Upcoming Season!

“Corporate Field” is scheduled to open its gates for the first time time this year on April 5th, 2010!  And you can count on myself and the rest of the staff to be present!  And this year, we have some new surprises for you on this site!  For the first time ever, will have video blog posts from yours truly every week!  And if the NYPD grants me a separate media permit (currently pending) to shoot live media broadcasts from sporting events, then we will also have on-scene street interviews and analysis from myself, fans, & maybe even players!

So even though the upcoming season may not look that promising on paper, you can count on to shed some light on what many feel is a dark situation.

But now onto business…

Once again, the Mets are far from being a World Series caliber team right from the get-go.  Injuries continue to plague star players for yet another season and maybe, just maybe, the Mets can grind it out and pull off a trademark miracle season! (but from the looks of it, Jesus himself may not be able to perform a miracle that big)

In truth, I just don’t know what to think anymore guys!  Following the 2006 NLCS Game 7 loss at Shea (R.I.P.), the Mets have continuously proven themselves to be recurring choke artists. I’m sure there is no need for me to get into that discussion!

However, during this past off-season, the NY sports scene has been filled with tons of great news and riveting speculation that has the engulfed the entire Big Apple. Sending sports headlines to the front pages of all papers and injecting optimism for fans of select NYC teams!

In a quick recap:

NY SportsThe NY Jets developed into the best NFL team in NYC… with an amazing playoff run and giving a quick glance of what appears to be a bright future for Gang Green!

The NY Knicks may be subpar this season, but the clock is ticking until Lebron fever hits the Garden faithful! The countdown has already begun!

The NY Yankees, after winning the World Series, got younger & has set the constructed another roster with the power & stats to go all the way!

The NY Red Bulls, despite possible bankruptcy for the MLS, got a brand new stadium in Dirty Jerzee & were impressive against Brazilian giant FC Santos!

The NJ Nets cleared a major hurdle, with KGB support, on their journey to become a NYC team! This after receiving clearance to begin construction on a new arena in downtown Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Nets Are Coming! Fuhgeddaboutit!

The NY Giants, despite a disappointing season, will open the gates to their new home in the Meadowlands Arena after winning the coin toss to host the first home game vs. the Jets!

And the Mets

well… we got…

(drumroll please)

Ummm… Hold On…. Jason Bay?!?!?!

That’s the Mets “big” off-season acquisition?!?!?!

You’ve got to be kidding? Right?

Unless Jason Bay can go out there and give the Mets 5-6 solid innings on the mound  and/or give the team strong middle relief, I just don’t understand what this acquisition does for the Mets (besides give them another white guy on the roster). Honestly, I firmly believe the Yankees’ signing of both Curtis Granderson & Randy “Old Man River” Winn far outweighs & will have far more of a positive impact on the team than the Mets ‘ signing of Jason Bay.  If you really want to know what I think, and this is just a gut feeling, Jason Bay will become the next 2001-era Jeremy Burnitz! All hype (if there even is any) with no results! I just don’t see the man becoming a fan favorite and giving the Mets what they so desperately need, clutch performers & solid pitching!

jason marquisWhy didn’t the team pursue pitching? Staten Island native Jason Marquis WANTED to become a Met! Hello!!! Let me say it one more time to cement it in your minds: He WANTED To Become A Met!  He would have given the Mets a much needed starter and being a home-grown/local talent, he would have had instant fan support a la John Franco! C’mon guys! Don’t tell me, and the fans, that after much deliberation, Jason Marquis didn’t fit into the teams plans!  Why didn’t management pursue this man?!?!

Many speculatory reasons have surfaced, but noone knows for sure. But here are some of my favorites:

1. He’s white and doesn’t fit into Omar’s M.E.T.S. (My Entire Team is Spanish) profile
Los Mets Jersey

2. He not a Japanese all-star we can accommodate by moving Jose Reyes over to 2nd base

3. & (my favorite reason) He’s from Staten Island & that is NOT a borough of NYC!!!

Staten island copy

Well, enough on pitching (we have all season to b@tch about that), Jason Marquis is NOT a Met, and no need to talk crap about the newly acquired Jason Bay (I’m sure his performance will do that for me).  In conclusion, all I have to say is that the Mets are in for another turbulent season!  BUT this year, it won’t be a surprise.  The only surprise for this team would be anything positive! Such as: a) no season ending injuries, b) a great midseason acquisition, or perhaps, fingers crossed, c) a run for the Wild Card!

Next year may not be now but one can dream, can’t they?

Until next time nation. Cheers!
