“If we’re going to win the pennant, we’ve got to start thinking we’re not as good as we think we are.” – Casey Stengel
Have you ever wanted something so bad that you tell yourself it won’t happen, just to try not to “jinx” it from actually happening? There are baseball fans and then there are fans like myself, Mets fans. We have experienced pain and suffering, occasional joy (’69 & ’86), but mostly a lot of pain. Maybe this blog was sparked by the recent end of the last few seasons, the constant build up in expectations only to be let down so viciously or maybe it was just that little voice inside of every Met fan that reminds us no matter how good things get, the next big disappointment could be in the upcoming three game series.
To be clear, this blog isn’t one that will always take the pessimistic point of view nor will it continually express displeasure in every move made by the team, although I’m sure there will be plenty of both. This blog plans to take an in-depth look at the New York Mets on a daily basis and deliver information and opinion on our beloved Amazin’s.
This blog is for every Met fan that has loved their team through thick and thin, who has bled orange and blue their entire lives, who feels just a little off after every loss, who roots and hopes for the best, but in their mind constantly sets their favorite team up for disappointment, just so they won’t feel as awful when the disappointment hits. To the Pessimistic Met Fan I tip my cap to you.
